An end effector is the device at the end of a robotic arm, designed to interact with the environment. The exact nature of this device depends on the application of the robot.
Robot end effectors are the most essential peripheral in a robotic cell. The end-of-arm tooling is the device used by the robot to perform a task. These devices include, welding guns, spot welders, spray guns, grinding tools, sanding devices, deburring tools, grippers, vacuum devices, and many types of mechanical, hydraulic, or electromechanical tools. End effectors are often custom built to meet product specifications or to perform specific task.
Robots often use different tools during a programmed cycle. The robot will often perform a tool change to accomplish a set task. A tooling change might involve just two tools or many. The ability to change tooling allows one robot to perform many task.
